"Vajravarahi"
Tibet
Ca. 11th century
Bronze
H: 4 3/4h (12 cm)
This Goddess inspires people to pursue Enlightenment,
and eliminates all obstacles to the attainment of that ultimate
goal. She dances naked in the cemeteries and haunted places
of the world, converting demons and subduing ghosts. She wields
the knife of wisdom that cuts through all ignorance, holds
the bowl of compassion that provides
for the benefit of all beings, and carries the magical katvanga
staff that is the hidden form of her mighty consort, Cakrasamvara.
From her head emerges the face of the adamantine sow who
takes her wherever she is needed, and eliminates any obstacle
to
the swift completion of her Enlightened deeds.
